Installation Process
Your first installation is performed by a certified Airtel installer. Here's what to expect from registration to going live:
1
Register Online
Fill in the 5-step registration form on our website. Takes about 3 minutes. No upfront payment required at any point during registration.
2
We Call You Within 24 Hours
Our team reviews your application and calls to confirm installation details, check coverage at your address, and schedule a convenient date and time.
3
Professional Installation
A certified Airtel installer visits your premises. They mount the outdoor ODU unit (ZLT X17M) in the optimal position for signal reception — rooftop, wall, or pole — and run the PoE cable to the indoor router (ZLT W304VA PRO).
4
SIM Activation & Testing
The installer inserts and activates your Airtel 5G SIM card (included, no extra cost), configures the router, and tests your connection speed before leaving.
5
Pay Installation Fee After Success
Only after the router is installed and working do you pay the KSh 1,000 installation fee directly to the installing officer. Never pay before installation is complete and confirmed.
6
Activate Monthly Plan with Airtel
Your monthly package (KSh 1,999 for 15 Mbps or KSh 2,999 for 30 Mbps) is paid directly to Airtel Kenya — not to your agent. Renew monthly with no contract obligations.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the installation fee?▾
The KSh 1,000 installation fee covers professional mounting of the outdoor unit (ODU), running the PoE Ethernet cable, configuring the indoor WiFi 6 router, inserting and activating the Airtel SIM card, and testing your connection. The router device and SIM card are provided at no cost by Airtel.
What is the data cap and what happens after?▾
Both packages include 1 TB (1,000 GB) of high-speed data per month. After you use all 1 TB, your speed is automatically reduced to 2 Mbps — you can still browse, but slower. You can purchase additional Airtel data bundles to restore full speed immediately. Your 1 TB allowance resets at the start of every new billing month.
How many devices can connect?▾
The indoor router (ZLT W304VA PRO) supports up to 64 devices simultaneously. For optimal performance, Airtel recommends connecting up to 32 devices at a time. The router also has 3 LAN ports for wired Ethernet connections, which provide faster and more stable speeds than WiFi.
Can I move the router to a different house?▾
Yes — Airtel SmartConnect is portable, unlike fiber. You can uninstall the outdoor unit and reinstall it at a new address as long as there is Airtel network coverage there. A reinstallation fee may apply. Contact your Airtel Agent at 0737 718 521 to arrange a relocation.
Is there a long-term contract?▾
No contract is required. Airtel SmartConnect is completely month-to-month. You pay for your chosen data plan each month and can stop or change plans at any time without penalty fees.
My internet is slow — what should I check?▾
First check that you haven't used all 1 TB of your monthly data cap (if so, speed is limited to 2 Mbps). Also check: (1) The outdoor unit LED is showing a good signal (steady green). (2) The Ethernet cable between the ODU and indoor router is securely connected. (3) Reboot both units — unplug the indoor router, wait 30 seconds, plug back in. If the issue persists, call Airtel Customer Care on 100 or your Airtel Agent at 0737 718 521.
How do I access the router admin panel?▾
Open a browser on any device connected to the router's WiFi and go to 192.168.1.1. You can also manage your router via the TZLink mobile app. Default login credentials are printed on the label on the bottom of your indoor router unit.
What if there's a power cut?▾
The indoor router has a rechargeable backup battery that can keep the device running for a limited period during power outages. When power is restored, the battery recharges automatically. The outdoor unit receives power via PoE from the indoor router.
How do I pay my monthly plan?▾
Your monthly data plan (KSh 1,999 or KSh 2,999) is paid directly to Airtel Networks Kenya Limited — not to Airtel Agent. Payment methods include M-Pesa, bank card, or bank transfer. your Airtel Agent does not receive or process your monthly subscription payments.
